Have any of you ever considered sinking to this level of dorkitude? This is an amazing hobby, the predecessor of everything you call a RPG (Except Rocket Propelled Grenades, of course).
I've seen that some of you do forum role-playing. I admit to not knowing much about how you (mainly) computer/console gamers roleplay, but I imagine it is much the same. The role-playing will always be the same, and that is truly what makes the game fun.
But, I think everyone should try sitting around a table with, some pretzels and beer, rolling funny-shaped dice to determine the success or failure of an action which could save your life or cause your untimely demise.
I am willing to explain further if anyone is confused. I am also willing to teach the game. I can provide links to resources needed to play, if anyone is interested.

I've always wanted to buy the D&D books from eBay, but I thought them to be too expensive. Besides, the only person to play with now would be my brother, and that is too small a crew, especially since one of us will have to be DM.
Psi, can you please link us to some of those useful sites? It would really help. Thanks!

That is a site dedicated to helping people find gamers in their area.
Second: Hypertext d20 SRD -
There are all of the OGL (Open Gaming License) D&D 3.5 rules. It won't teach you how to play, but it has all the information you need to play. I frequently use it instead of my books because a hyperlink is so much faster than flipping 50 pages.
About you "no one to play with comment." There is a severe lack of players in my area too. So what do I do? I play online! Pen & Paper Games has a flash-based chat room where member can chat it up, or even play games! The chat includes a die roller, you dont have to worry about people lying about rolls. I play a Pathfinder game in there on Wednesday nights.
And remember, there are more games than just D&D. I own the rulebooks for several White Wolf publishing World of Darkness games. The standard is Vampires. But you can go with Werewolves, Mages, Hunters, Changelings and the like, set in a shadowy version of our own world. Oh, I should also mention I have a couple thousand dollars invested into role-playing material. I have a shelf with over 50 large Hardcover book on it, and so many more softcovers.
Happy Gaming!

We should really get a dice roller. Commision it, Blu! Let a professional know that we want everything that would allow roleplaying and maybe you can get it for like $10? I'd pay for that, but in the form of a random $50 donation soon. Like a couple months. :)
